RPSolutions GP 58 " The Black Beast "

Great Pier .58 AKA The Black Beast

Sometimes you want something, you spend years faxing on it, then suddenly it comes up for sale. This happened to a person who wanted a high end rifle. Had ever read anything about a crowdfunding project in the Netherlands. When one of those air rifles came on sale he didn't hesitate for a moment and asked me how and what.

It turned out to be the KS09 a Great Pier in the cheerful caliber .58. After we provided the contact details, the deal was closed. To my surprise, the buyer contacted me again because he had a request. The rifle needed a new black coat, wanted a brake on it, and whether we could fit that funny slug we had in .45, in a .584 rifle.

Whats all about?

Its all about a KSS Grutte Pier (Grutte Pier a historical person out of the Frieslandse ( Dutch province) history ). There are only 10 rifles ordered and build eight caliber 45 and two in 58. Rifles are designed and Build by Kurvers Schiet Sport. Project started as a crowdfunding project all rifle where built with special wishes from the owners.

The Great Pier is built with the best design and materials available those days, rifle stocks are made by van Breen a well-known gunstock builder. For tweaking a lot is adjustable, Hamer weight, mainspring tension, valve stroke. Mainspring is prohibited with a radial bearing. Using a 2 lever system its not possible cocking the rifle when probe is open and verse versa. Standard we have a Match trigger with accelerator. And all rifles are built with a heavy duty barrel.

All efforts are made to get the rifle as consisted as possible. As noticed you wont find the valve housing on this page. And off course a special rifle gets a special slug.

the problem

Yes, there's a chip missing. Partly for this reason, it was decided to return the entire rifle to Global Custom Paint where the rifle received her first ceramic jacket immediately after birth

brake time

The Fresh owner wanted to have a muzzle brake on it. Had seen some videos of a .72 with brake and he liked it. It had to be something special, if we had an idea. So what works, and especially where could it be improved.

We decided to opt for a Hybrid brake system. The meaning off this will become clear later on.

First of all, a bit of fine metric on the barrel. Of course we wont look at the outer limits of the barrel, we measured on the rifling.

The Brake at full speed. It just needs to be taken out of the package.

its in sight all most there.

Whats all about that hybrid thing?

So this. No dorky Prius, its about these cones

Fjords

These cones have a passage just a little larger the slug has to pass through, clearance about 1mm. The cones will strip the air witch the slug wants to pass and return this airflow so this column reduces the recoil. This procedure is repeated again for better result.

It quickly becomes more complicated

This makes you happy, doesn't it?

Now we have to test at different pressures. And of course with and without brake.

Fjords

Its not all pink smell and moonshine. We've got some chipping on the brake.

Should there be another slug?

Well, we didn't have to leave the house for it. It was a matter of adjusting your drawing they told me.
